New opening hours

From 1 April 2026: New opening hours at the Museum of Military History

From 1 April 2026, new opening hours will apply at the Museum of Military History. For visitors, the most important change is that the museum will be closed on Mondays.

From Tuesday to Sunday, the museum in Vienna’s Arsenal complex continues to invite visitors to embark on a fascinating journey through history – with remarkable objects, historic vehicles and many stories about war, society and the lives of people in different historical periods. On these days, the Museum of Military History is open from 9 am to 5 pm. An exception is Easter Monday, 6 April 2026, when the museum will also be open.

Visiting the museum remains especially accessible: children and young people up to the age of 19 enjoy free admission. The standard admission fee is €3.50, with reduced tickets at €2.50.

Discover even more: the Tank Hall and the Artillery Halls

A visit to the Arsenal site can easily be combined with additional exhibition areas. The Tank Hall is open Thursday to Sunday from 9 am to 4 pm. Here, visitors can experience historic military vehicles at close range. Particularly popular are the monthly guided tours, which take place on the first Sunday of every month at 12:30 pm, offering engaging insights into the technology and history of the vehicles on display.

From 1 April to 31 October 2026, the Artillery Halls in the Arsenal will also reopen. They are accessible Tuesday to Sunday from 9 am to 5 pm, and admission is free.

Military Aviation Museum Zeltweg

A visit is also worthwhile beyond Vienna: the Military Aviation Museum Zeltweg, located at Fliegerhorst Hinterstoisser (Hangar 8), will be open from 30 April to 31 October 2026.
Visitors can explore historic aircraft and the history of Austrian military aviation from Thursday to Sunday between 9 am and 5 pm. Admission costs €3, with reduced tickets at €2, and is free for everyone up to the age of 19.

Telecommunications Collection

The Telecommunications Collection at the Starhemberg Barracks (1100 Vienna) can be visited by appointment. Enquiries can be made via email at fernmeldesammlung@hgm.at. Admission is free.

Areas currently closed

As part of the museum’s ongoing development, some areas are temporarily closed. This currently includes the Naval Hall as well as the galleries “Thirty Years’ War” and “Maria Theresa”, which are undergoing renovation.
The gallery “Republic and Dictatorship” is currently being comprehensively redesigned and is scheduled to reopen in spring/summer 2026.
The Ungerberg bunker complex also remains closed until further notice due to construction works.
