The Military Aviation Museum at the Hinterstoisser Air Base in Zeltweg, as an external exhibit of the Heeresgeschichtliches Museum, presents the whole spectrum of activities of the Austrian air force since 1955. Housed in the historical old Hangar No. 8 at the Hinterstoisser Air Base in Zeltweg, this exhibit comprises over 25 aircraft illustrating the history of Austria’s military aviation on a surface area of 5,000 m2.

The focus is on the Austrian Bundesheer of the Second Republic. Among the objects on display are a Yakovlev Yak-18, the oldest aircraft used by the Austrian Federal Army during the Second Republic; the Fouga CM170 ‘Magister’; the de Havilland DH-115 ‘Vampire’; the Saab J-29F ‘Flying Barrel’ and the well-known Saab 350E ‘Draken’. One of the two Short Sh-7 ‘Skyvan’ transport aircraft can also be viewed at the exhibition.
